goodbye namecheap!

Recently I have not been liking namecheap. Their renewal prices are so much more than godaddy’s, their support is shit. They don’t even have phone support; hell I don’t mind talking to someone in a 3rd world country as long as I get some support! And now with a so far failed attempt at transferring xc-host.com to godaddy.

I bought the transfer from godaddy for xc-host.com. I got the epp code and everything entered, but the domain wasn’t being moved over. So I emailed namecheap and they told me that the domain had to not be expiring for 7 more days. Mine had 3 left; they wouldn’t do shit for me and the transfer was already in progress.. So I tried renewing it but because of the pending transfer it wouldn’t renew. I was informed by one of the technicians (Mayya K.) that the domain had been registered for me. I logged in and saw it wasn’t but gave her the benefit of the doubt as it may take a little longer (this was friday). Sunday rolls around 1 day left before the domain expires and sure enough it still says its going to expire. So I try again to renew the domain, no luck. I submit my 2nd support ticket, no response until this morning. I am told that the pending transfer of the domain is why I cannot register it. So I reply and ask “What can I do?”. No response. I get to work phone godaddy see if they can stop the transfer so I can register the domain. They tell me that it has to be done on namecheap’s end. So I finally do a live support chat with someone about it and I guess she fixed something cause I could finally renew the domain. Where I am now I have to wait another 5-7 days to get the domain pushed to godaddy.

My time with namecheap is over. One by one as my domains get close to expiring they are all moving to godaddy. I get good discounts at godaddy so I will use them now exclusively.

From what I saw when the domain was expired for the 2-4 hour period the dns didn’t go to some spam page setup by namecheap. It still went to the regular site. If anyone received downtime today it is because of namecheap. Everything is working fine now..

In closing, namecheap ftl.
